.Hydrogen is the first element of the periodic table, the less heavy. This gas was used to fill balloons and airships, but is highly flammable and explosive. In the next experiment you will generate hydrogen and a miniature test of its reactivity.
Pocedure
You need hydrochloric acid (HCl), is the main component of muriatic acid - care is very irritating - some sheets of zinc that we can cut from the cober of saline batteries (those who are not alkaline).
You can disarm the stack and see who has a core of coal coated with a material called black manganese dioxide MnO2 (this will serve us for another experiment), and finally a metal cover of zinc.
Also you will have to find a pair of test tubes (probably at the pharmacy you can buy)
In a test tube placed a piece of zinc and cover it with hydrochloric acid, immediately cover the test tube with another test tube. It will generate hydrogen bubbles that are very lightweight and will move toward the top tube top. After the reaction, keep the upper tube upside down, lit a match and place it below the top tube (dont worry) .... as you will see there is a small explosion, after the explosion a water vapor is produced. The hydrogen reacts with oxygen in the air to produce water. That is why if the engines run on hydrogen does not pollute because the waste would be water vapor. The fuel rockets to send into space consists of a tank of hydrogen and one oxygen, the combustion is controlled and the waste is water vapor.
Reaction: 2HCl + Zn = ZnCl2 + H2
Chemical experiments in a simple way, using reagents and materials from home, grocery store, hardware store, agriculture, bathroom, kitchen, washer, first aid kits. For chemistry amateur, novice, curious, impressive and with explanations in plain language. NO experimentation is dangerous, and in particular cases precautions will be minimum. Each week we will go to increase the list of experiments.
